GTA 6 Age Rating: ESRB, PEGI and USK Explained

The short version: GTA 6 is an adults’ game wherever it has been rated. It’s M for Mature 17+ from the ESRB in North America and USK 18 in Germany, and store listings show adult ratings elsewhere. If you’re a parent, the settings below matter more than the exact label.

Official decision or store label?

Not every rating you’ll see carries the same weight, so we’ve split them.

RegionRatingWhat kind of evidence

Store labels and ads can change, so check your own local board if it matters to you.

What the ESRB says is in the game

The ESRB lists Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol, along with an In-Game Purchases notice.

“Strong Sexual Content” doesn’t tell you whether that happens in a cutscene or in play. Rockstar hasn’t spelled it out, so expect it in the game but don’t rely on claims about exactly how it appears.

The odd PEGI story

Reports say a PEGI listing appeared in early October, described violence, drug use, nudity and sexual content, and then disappeared. We haven’t found an explanation from PEGI. Copies of its wording are circulating, but we can’t confirm them, so we’re not repeating the details as fact.

A parent’s checklist before November 12

The pre-load opens on November 12, a week before launch, so a child with console access could have the game installed earlier than you expect.

  • PS5: go to Settings, then Family and Parental Controls, then Family Management. Set your child’s age level for games and a monthly spending limit.
  • Xbox Series X|S: use the Xbox Family Settings app to set content limits, screen time and spending, and turn on Ask to Buy.
  • Check shared profiles. Age limits are set per child account, so they don’t help if a child plays on an adult’s profile.
  • Check for pre-orders. See whether anyone on the account has already bought the game.

Our take: for most families the clearest answer is the simplest one. Treat GTA 6 as you would an 18-rated film, whatever your region’s exact label says.
