The short version: GTA 6 takes place in Leonida, Rockstar’s take on Florida, across six named regions. Rockstar developers have compared the map to about twice GTA V’s, but no official square-mile figure or map image exists.
The six regions, and what they’re for
Rockstar has named the regions. The real-world comparison and “why go there” columns are our own reading of its descriptions, not official information.
| Region | What Rockstar shows | Closest real place | Why you might go |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vice City | Beaches, art deco, nightlife, cruise port | Miami | The dense urban heart of the game |
| Leonida Keys | Island chain joined by bridges | Florida Keys | Where the story starts |
| Grassrivers | Wetlands, airboats, alligators | The Everglades | Wilderness and wildlife |
| Port Gellhorn | Faded resort town, motels | Florida’s Gulf coast|Small-town grime | |
| Ambrosia|Sugar country, refinery, bikers | Around Lake Okeechobee | Rural crime and open roads | |
| Mount Kalaga | National park, trails, hunting | North Florida forests | Off-road and outdoor activities |
How big is it, really?
Be careful with this question, because several very different numbers are being treated as the same thing.
| Claim | Who said it | How much to trust it |
|---|---|---|
| Around twice GTA V’s map | Rockstar developers, as reported by Dexerto | Best available, but not a measurement |
| Largest map Rockstar has made “by some degree” | Aaron Garbut, to Game Informer, as reported by Dexerto | Official, but with no number attached |
| Vice City about twice Los Santos | Rockstar North, reported from preview coverage | Covers the city only |
| Exact square miles or a precise multiple from fans | Fan reconstructions and leaks | Estimate only |
Our advice is to ignore any exact figure. Rockstar has not published one for GTA 6, and “twice as big” says nothing about how much of that space is water, road or empty land. Density may matter more than size, since Rockstar has talked up large numbers of enterable interiors.
Can you trust a GTA 6 map image?
Not yet. Rockstar hasn’t released one online, so the maps you see are fan work built from trailer footage. They can be fun, but treat them as theories. A printed map poster has been reported for a collector’s box, The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, which is sold without the game.
Will you see it all through the story?
Probably not. Garbut told Game Informer the game will show you most of the map, but not every corner. If exploring is why you’re buying GTA 6, expect to leave the main path on your own.
Reports also say the game begins in the Keys before opening up, and that unexplored areas stay hidden on the pause map. Those details come from preview coverage, not Rockstar’s own material.
